The fall quarter officially ended on October 17, but there has been no slowdown in activities at Berean Academy. Between scholars’ bowl competitions, robotics, volleyball, soccer, and cross country, it's been a busy season.

Right before Thanksgiving Break, we hosted our annual Spiritual Emphasis Week student conference. On November 1st, the Robotics class participated in the BEST Robotics competition at Wichita State University. This year's theme, Factoids, was inspired by Artificial Intelligence (AI). Our class theme was “Figuring It Out Together” as all six students were Freshmen and new to robotics. This was also Seth Winzer's first year leading the team. From HOA League honor ensembles for both band and choir to community performances for residents at Bluestem, Paramount, Presbyterian Manor, and Wheat State nursing homes, and even participating in the Wichita Symphony Youth Orchestra, our young musicians are putting Colossians 3:16 into practice.

On November 14th and 15th, a cast and crew of about 25 students performed “ The Matchmaker, ” written by Thornton Wilder, directed by Sarah Pressnell. This play was written in 1955 and later became the beloved musical “Hello Dolly.”  The Matchmaker follows Horace Vandergelder (Jackson Briggs), a wealthy merchant in 19th-century Yonkers, NY. We have officially launched our new student-led podcast series titled “Inside the Academy”. This series was created as part of our new Service Group concept, where students spend 30 minutes every other Tuesday working on projects in service to Berean and the community

We had another wonderful time together at East Lake this year!  One huge difference was that we had the 6th graders joining in, and they did a fantastic job of integrating into the junior high. I am Sarah Friesen, and the new Admissions Director for Berean Academy. My husband, Marc, and I are now in our 12th year as parents (Luke, 11th; Kate, 7th) here at the school. The Warrior Golf Classic was held on Saturday, September 13,  at Sand Creek Station Golf Course. Berean students, parents, family, and friends came together for fellowship and friendly competition. This year’s Warrior Golf Classic drew a record 128 golfers, and thanks to our generous and loyal sponsors, we raised over $7,200, which will offset unbudgeted activity expenses, such as uniforms and state competitions. Our Spiritual Emphasis Week touched the hearts of many students as they were challenged to consider what it means to be the image bearers of God.
