Worship Through Excellence: Berean Musicians Shine This Winter

Since Christmas, the music department has been hard at work preparing for a full season of performances and festivals. Students jumped right into rehearsals in January, polishing music for the winter concert on February 19, as well as for the upcoming solo and ensemble festival and the large ensemble festival later this spring. Their dedication was evident not only in their daily practice but also in the excellence they displayed on stage and in adjudicated events.

On February 7, Carson Thiessen, Cody Entz, Esther Good, and Ruth Gaudern represented Berean Academy at the KSHSAA Regional Piano Festival. All four students earned a I rating—the highest possible—and advanced to the KSHSAA State Piano Festival on February 21, where they each once again achieved a I rating. This remarkable accomplishment reflects both their hard work and the strong musical instruction they have received.

In addition, six Berean students participated in the KMEA Music Festival in late February, an honor that highlights their musical talent and commitment.

  • Macy Mitchell performed as 1st chair flute in the 1234A Band.

  • Luke Friesen was selected as the band’s only baritone saxophone player.

  • Jersey Busenitz played in the full orchestra.

  • Madison Nickel sang in the Treble Choir.

  • Kaylee Schmidtberger and Adelaide Tippin participated in the Middle Level Choir during the convention.

We are incredibly proud of the work, discipline, and passion our students continue to show—both individually and as part of their ensembles. Their achievements reflect not only musical excellence but also the heart behind why we make music.

As Psalm 101:1b reminds us, “To you, O Lord, I will make music.” May every note played and every song sung by our students bring worship, honor, and glory to the Lord.
