David Funk
Head of School

David Funk has been involved in Christian school education for thirty-eight years, both as a teacher and administrator. He has a bachelor's degree in elementary education, a master's degree in educational administration from Cornerstone Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, MI., and a specialist in education degree in educational administration from Wichita State University. 

Born in Wichita, KS, Mr. Funk is a native Kansan with deep roots in this part of the state. He has been married to Alicia Funk for fourty-three years, and together, they have raised three sons who all attended Christian schools from Kindergarten through 12th grade. These sons have given them nine grandchildren. In his free time, Mr. Funk enjoys walks with his wife, reading, playing with his grandchildren, the occasional golf outing, and being outdoors exploring God's creation.

Jason Wine
Principal 6th - 12th Grade

Mr. Wine earned a bachelor's degree in history from Wichita State University. He earned a master's in historical theology from Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis. He is starting his twenty-fourth year at Berean Academy.

 

In his spare time, Mr. Wine enjoys spending time with his wife, Kirstin, and his three daughters. He enjoys reading history, theology, and philosophy. He also loves spending time in the outdoors: hunting and fishing.

Melissa Unruh

Principal K - 5th Grade

Mrs. Unruh earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Kansas and is currently finishing her 19th year in the classroom. She has teaching experience in PreK through 6th grade.

She is passionate about Christian education's role in helping prepare students to be useful servants of Christ in whatever future God has ordained for them.

In her free time, Mrs. Unruh enjoys spending time with her husband, Lee, and their three children. She enjoys reading and being out in nature.
