Exploring the Spirituality of Work: Lessons from Our Annual Emphasis Week

Right before Thanksgiving Break, we hosted our annual Spiritual Emphasis Week student conference. It was a little later in the semester than usual, but it allowed Dr. Bryan Smith from BJU Press to find an opening in his schedule to speak about “The Spirituality of Work.” Last year, we learned about our identity as image bearers of God, so this was a great way to continue the conversation, as he touched on how we were made to work, the trouble with our work, and the hope we have for it.
Here is a quick snapshot of what our two-day conference looked like: Grades 6-12 met in the chapel together and began with worship led by our student worship team. Dr. Smith then spoke to the students for about 40 minutes, which was followed immediately by splitting into small groups to discuss and apply what they had just heard. After about 25 minutes, students returned to the chapel for a time of Q&A with Dr. Smith and a closing worship song.
We are so thankful to continue this annual tradition that allows students to invest in their spiritual walk with the Lord and their biblical worldview. If anyone wants to check out Dr. Smith’s talks, they are posted on our Spiritual Life page on our school website and on our school YouTube channel.
