The Hobbit is set in Middle-earth and follows home-loving Bilbo Baggins (Reagan Simkins), a conservative hobbit who joins the wizard Gandalf (Jackson Briggs) and the thirteen dwarves led by Thorin Oakinshield (Jeremiah Briscoe) on a quest to reclaim the dwarves' home and treasure from the dragon Smaug. Bilbo's journey takes him from his peaceful rural surroundings into more sinister territory. It's the last thing that any sensitive Hobbit would want to do, but great benefit eventually results, not only for Bilbo but for all of the Hobbits who inhabit Middle-earth.
While Berean normally performs its plays during the fall semester, this year's production was moved to the spring due to unforeseen conflicts. It made for a busy schedule, but as they say, “the show must go on.” The last time The Hobbit was performed at Berean was over 50 years ago, and we are grateful for all the hard work and dedication the students put into this production.
Thank you to our director, Sarah Pressnell, student stage managers Titus Veer and Ellie Good, all the students involved both on and off the stage, and to the parents who donated their time and skill to help make this year’s play a wonderful success.
