Berean Board of Trustees

Berean Academy's Board of Trustees is comprised of 9-15 men affirmed for a three-year team by the Berean Christian Laymens Association (BCLA). Board members whose first terms expire may be reaffirmed by the Boar for a second three-year term, serving a maximum of three consecutive three-year terms, and must have at least one year of absence before re-election. The Board meets monthly during the year on the third Thursday of each month, with the exception of December and May.

Our desire is to promote harmony and unity within the Berrean family and be a capable and respectful board that will lead the school well continually and to the glory of God for generations to come.

The duties of the Board of Trustees are: 

​

  1. The Board of Trustees is the operating and managing body of the Berean Christian
    Laymen’s Association.

  2. Newly elected Board members will be provided necessary training in policy, procedure, 
    and practice prior to their first official meeting. (Revised 3/20)

  3. The Board of Trustees will conduct regular meetings as required to efficiently operate the school. (Revised 1/11)

  4. Regular ongoing training will be provided to Board members each year to ensure 
    growth and understanding of board responsibilities. (Revised 3/20)

  5. Board members will do an annual self-evaluation to challenge themselves around their
    performance and understanding of board policy. (Revised 3/20)

  6. The annual meeting of the members of the association shall be held after the close of 
    the fiscal year, the specific date to be designated by the Board of Trustees. (Revised

  7. The Board of Trustees will provide and sustain the strategic plan. (Revised 2/13)

  8. The Board of Trustees will formally evaluate the Head of School annually. (Revised 2/13)

  9. The Board of Trustees shall annually approve the Staff and Student handbooks. (Revised 2/13)

  10. The Board of Trustees will participate with the administration for accreditation review.

  11. The Board of Trustees will ensure the fiscal solvency of the school. (Revised 2/13)

  12. The Board will promote the harmony and unity within the Berean family and will 
    ensure the adopted Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation Policy is being administered 
    timely and appropriately. (See Appendix) (Revised 2/13)

  13. The Board of Trustees will govern the overall education vision. (Revised 2/13)

  14. The Building and Grounds Committee is responsible for the oversight of the development 
    and maintenance of the facilities, equipment, and grounds of the school. (Revised 2/13)

  15. The Finance Committee is responsible for the fiscal management and operation of the 
    school, including the development and oversight of the annual budget. (Revised 2/13)

  16. The Policy and Plans Committee is responsible for the development and maintenance 
    of school policies and the Strategic Plan. (Revised 1/11)

Board Candidate Requirements

​

​The members of the association shall nominate candidates for the Board of Trustees from the membership. The nomination committee, made up of the Policy and Plans Committee, two association members, and one Berean staff member, will verify the eligibility of the candidates based on the qualifications listed 
below. The membership in attendance at the annual meeting shall elect the new members of the Board of Trustees from the qualified candidates. They shall have the following qualifications:

  1. Members of the board shall subscribe annually to the doctrinal statement of the association.

  2. They shall be men of recognized Christian character who have a clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ.

  3. They shall be deeply concerned for the spiritual welfare of the school.

  4. They shall not be divorced or married to one who has been divorced.

  5. Not more than one minister shall be elected to the board of trustees at each annual meeting.

  6. They shall be required to attend all board meetings unless unavoidably detained or for cause prevented.
