Elementary Fine Arts at Berean Academy
Berean Academy offers vocal music to all students Preschool through 6th grade. Daily elementary music classes provide stimulating and quality instruction in basic music theory and history, singing, and performance. Achieving excellence for God’s glory is a central theme in Berean Academy’s vocal music department. Multiple entertaining concerts are performed each year.
Mrs. Ruth Boettcher is the director of all our elementary choirs.
Instrumental music at Berean is introduced at the 5th grade level. In the band classes, focus is primarily on increasing the skills of playing an instrument but also includes exploring the roles of the singer, composer, and audience. Each band meets on a daily basis with approximately forty-five minutes of instruction time. Mrs. Bev Lister is the 5th and 6th grade band director.
Visual arts have always been a way to express the beauty of God. The Berean creators in grades K-6 are introduced to different mediums – painting, sculpting, drawing and so much more. Students have the opportunity to express themselves through class projects displayed throughout our building on a regular basis. Mrs. Sara Meisinger, Class of 1989, and Mrs. Beth Smith, serve as the elementary art teachers.
At the elementary level we recognize the importance and value of introducing a fine arts curriculum to students and its value to overall learning and long term quality of life — not to mention the integral communion forged over centuries between the expressive and visual arts and Christian worship and praise. Currently Berean offers Vocal Music Choir (Preschool-6), Band (5-6), and Art (Kindergarten-6).
We are blessed to have outstanding Christian teachers and sponsors in each of these areas that are artistically and technically gifted. The students perform their musical and artistic talents through concerts and art shows.
